RALEIGH, NC (January 5, 2001) – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has hired Kyle Hanlin as the team’s Website Reporter. Hanlin will provide original coverage of the team for the team’s official website, CarolinaHurricanes.com. Hanlin has served as an intern in the Hurricanes Media Relations department since August 2000.
Hanlin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in December 2000. In addition to his internship with the Hurricanes, he gained experience as an online editor for The Daily Tar Heel, the student newspaper of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and as an intern at WashingtonPost.com in Washington, D.C.
Website Reporter is a new position which has been added to the organization. As the Website Reporter, Hanlin will be responsible for writing original material such as game stories, features, and daily coverage, as well as covering special events such as the NHL Draft and Rookie Camp. He will improve the overall information content of the website, ensuring that CarolinaHurricanes.com is the primary source of information about the Carolina Hurricanes. He will also assist Director of Public and Media Relations Jerry Higgins and Media Relations Assistant Mike Sundheim in all the day-to-day activities of the public relations department.
