RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Southeast Division Champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned defenseman Dave Karpa to its International Hockey League affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Karpa, 28, completed his first season with Carolina last year totaling two points (0g, 2a) in 33 games. Acquired along with a fourth-round pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in exchange of Stu Grimson and Kevin Haller on August 11, 1998, Karpa missed 49 games last season due to a torn ACL and MCL in his knee and a bruised shoulder. Karpa returned to the lineup in April and played two games during the 1999 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Boston Bruins. Selected by Quebec in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, Karpa (6'1", 210 lbs.) has totaled 70 points (12g, 58a) in 356 games with the Quebec Nordiques, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes begin a five-game, 10-day road trip with a matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, October 7. Following the game, the team will travel to face the New York Rangers on Friday, October 8; the Calgary Flames on Monday, October 11; the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, October 13; and the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, October 15. All of the games on the trip will be broadcast on the Hurricanes Television Network with Home Team Sports and FOX Sports Net South carrying three games and WRAZ FOX 50 broadcasting the games against Calgary and Vancouver.
