Players and Coach Laviolette to visit area hospitals; shop with underprivileged children
RALEIGH, NC—Doug Warf, Manager of Community Relations for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced that all Hurricanes players and Head Coach Peter Laviolette will make community appearances on Monday, Dec. 17.
Three groups of players, and one group players joined by Coach Laviolette, will pay visits to North Carolina Children’s Hospital at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke Children’s Hospital, Rex Hospital and WakeMed on Monday afternoon. Each hospital visit will begin between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., except for the Duke appearance which will begin at 2:30 p.m.
At 4:30 p.m., goaltenders Cam Ward and John Grahame and defensemen Mike Commodore and Tim Gleason will shop with four children selected by the Boys and Girls Club of Durham and Wake County Human Services at Target in the North Hills shopping center. Each player will be paired with one of the children and will help them with their holiday shopping. Each child will be given a $150 Target gift card, compliments of the Carolina Hurricanes, to help the children buy holiday gifts for their families.
All media are invited to cover the shopping event beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. Media interested in covering one of the hospital visits are asked to contact Mike Sundheim or Kyle Hanlin so proper notification can be given to the hospitals.
