Canes to Host 9th Annual Military Appreciation Night
/ Carolina Hurricanes
RALEIGH, NC – On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Carolina Hurricanes will host Military Appreciation Night presented by Kangaroo Express, as the team takes on the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m. This marks the ninth season that the Hurricanes have hosted Military Appreciation Night as an opportunity to thank servicemen and women for their contributions, as well as raise awareness about the branches of the military.
Starting at 4:45 p.m., there will be a special display of military equipment on the RBC Center’s south lawn, including a variety of vehicles and weapons from most branches of the military. Inside the RBC Center, the branches of the military will each have tables set up on the main concourse. The color guard will be presented by Fort Bragg, and the national anthem will be performed by The Guardsmen, an ensemble comprised of members of the 440th Army Band.
During the game, various active, reserve and retired members of the military will be recognized and honored, including Sgt. Tommy Rieman. On Dec. 3, 2003, Sgt. Rieman and his team were sent on a reconnaissance mission near the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Before reaching its destination, the three-vehicle convoy came under heavy enemy fire. Sgt. Rieman suffered two bullet wounds and 11 shrapnel wounds, but was able direct his men to return fire and eventually suppress the attack. For his efforts, Rieman was awarded the Silver Star in August 2004, and was chosen as one of the faces of the U.S. Army's “America's Army: Real Heroes” program.
All members of the military are invited to take advantage of a special military appreciation rate for tickets to the game. Fans presenting a valid military ID at the RBC Center Box Office will receive $40 off any Lower Level seat and $10 off any Upper Level seat (Upper Goal Zone excluded). This discount will continue to be available through day of game and is subject to Standard Game-Week Pricing.
