For the second consecutive year, the Hurricanes will wear special jerseys honoring the military during pre-game warm-ups, which begin at 2:30 p.m. Nathan Gerbe’s and Manny Malhotra’s camouflage sweaters will be auctioned off during Sunday’s game at the Kids ‘N Community Foundation kiosk located outside of Section 129. The auction will end during the second intermission, and the winner of each jersey will receive a meet-and-greet with the respective player following the game. Proceeds from the sweaters will be split between the Kids 'N Community Foundation and the USO of North Carolina. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be a special display of military equipment on the PNC Arena South Plaza, including vehicles from branches of the military. After doors open, branches of the military will have tables set up on the main concourse for fans to learn more about each branch of the military and interact with military representatives.
In addition, the team will be hosting a Military Appreciation Drive. Fans can donate new, unopened packages of washcloths or shaving razors at all entrances prior to the game. Individuals that donate items will be entered to win prizes. All donations benefit the USO of North Carolina at Fort Bragg for soldiers leaving for deployment or returning home after deployment.
Prior to the game, the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry’s color guard will represent the 82nd Airborne Division and Fort Bragg in presenting the colors, and the 82nd Airborne Division’s All-American Chorus will perform the U.S. national anthem. The All-American Chorus also will perform during each intermission. The evening also will include a ceremonial puck drop, a U.S. Army swearing-in ceremony before the game, and various active, reserve and retired members of the military will be recognized and honored.
