RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will deliver 1,050 turkeys to area families on Wednesday ahead of Thanksgiving. Hurricanes alumni Erik Cole will be on hand to join team staff members in distributing the turkeys at Urban Ministries of Wake County, Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Raleigh Rescue Mission, Helping Hand Mission, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, and StepUp Ministry from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Media are invited to cover the turkey distribution which will take place as follows:
- 10:30 AM: Deliver turkeys to Urban Ministries of Wake County (1390 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27603)
- 11:00 AM: Deliver turkeys to Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina (1924 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27604)
- 11:30 AM: Deliver turkeys to Raleigh Rescue Mission (314 E. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601)
- 12:00 PM: Deliver and assist in handing out turkeys at Helping Hand Mission (623 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610)
- 1:00 PM: Deliver turkeys to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (1001 Blair Dr., Raleigh, NC 27603)
- Additionally, StepUp Ministry will pick up 10 turkeys from PNC Arena

This marks the ninth year of the Hurricanes' Thanksgiving partnership with Helping Hand Mission, second with Raleigh Rescue Mission, and first with Urban Ministries of Wake County, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, and StepUp Ministry. Contributions for the turkeys came from the Hurricanes' Tickets for Turkeys campaign, through which a portion of every ticket sold went toward the purchase of turkeys. Last season, the Tickets for Turkeys campaign donated 625 turkeys to Raleigh Rescue Mission and Helping Hand Mission.

Helping Hand Mission provides relief and support to families in need by distributing food and clothing, directing individuals to appropriate sources for help, training and educating individuals to help them find employment, restoring dignity, and helping persons become self-sufficient. Helping Hand Mission has been a turkey recipient for several years through a partnership created by Doris Barksdale.
About Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community. The Food Shuttle operates in a seven-county service area in central North Carolina, including: Wake, Durham, Johnston, Orange, Chatham, Nash and Edgecombe counties. During the 2018-19 season, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle received a $10,000 Game Changer Grant from the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation to stock a school pantry for one year and deliver 3,000 meals directly into the hands of at-risk, elementary school children through the BackPack Buddies program.
About StepUp Ministry
StepUp Ministry works with adults and children to transform their lives through employment and life skills training. The organization is a former Carolina Hurricanes Foundation GOAL Grant recipient, receiving $50,000 over a three-year period to benefit and enhance their children's programming.
