RALEIGH, NC -Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Jalen Chatfield to a two-year contract extension. The deal will pay Chatfield $750,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level in 2022-23 with a $300,000 guarantee, and he will earn $775,000 in 2023-24.

"From the moment camp began, he's played the Hurricane way," said Waddell. "Jalen earned this two-year extension, and we know he will continue to bolster our blue line." Chatfield, 25, has tallied one assist in seven NHL games with the Hurricanes in 2021-22. He has registered two assists in 25 career NHL games with Vancouver and Carolina since the start of last season. The 6'1", 188-pound blueliner has recorded seven points (4g, 3a) in 21 AHL games with Chicago this season and leads all Wolves defensemen in goals.
Chatfield has skated in 163 career AHL games with Utica and Chicago from 2017-22, posting 24 points (6g, 18a). Prior to turning professional, the Ypsilanti, Mich., native spent three seasons with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (AHL) from 2014-17, posting 86 points (19g, 67a). He served as an alternate captain in his final season with the Spitfires and helped the team capture the 2017 Memorial Cup as Canadian Hockey League (CHL) champions. Chatfield signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 30, 2021.
