The Carolina Hurricanes Red-White scrimmage will take center stage at the 15th annual Caniac Carnival
tonight at PNC Arena.
The scrimmage, which will begin at 7 p.m., could be one final chance for some players to leave a lasting impression with the coaching staff and front office.
“There’s still a chance to make an impression,” head coach Bill Peters said. “Who knows what happens? If somebody goes down and we need an extra body, if someone makes a lasting impression here late, they can buy some more time.”
The Red team features forwards Eric Staal, Alexander Semin and Jiri Tlusty and defensemen Haydn Fleury and Tim Gleason, among others. Cam Ward and Drew MacIntyre are the goaltenders for Team Red. The White team is highlighted by forwards Elias Lindholm and Jeff Skinner and defensemen Andrej Sekera and Justin Faulk. Anton Khudobin and Daniel Altshuller will be Team White’s netminders.
“I think the guys will play hard, and they’ll be intelligent about how hard they play. They’re not going to bury a teammate from behind,” Peters said. “With the way it’s set up, I think it has a chance to be real good for the fans and real good for the team.”
The scrimmage will function in a tightly controlled environment that will feature two 15-minute periods, intervals of four-on-four play, specialty teams work and a shootout.
“We’re going to control the whole thing from start to finish. We’ve got it mapped out,” Peters said. “It’s set up for us to get something out of it, for sure.”
