RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Alex Lyon from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis and placed defenseman Tony DeAngelo on injured reserve.

Lyon, 29, has made two NHL appearances with Carolina this season, earning a 1-0-1 record, 2.93 goals-against average and .908 save percentage. He has registered a 7-7-3 record, 3.18 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in 24 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Carolina from 2018-22. The 6'1", 201-pound netminder has also earned a 14-6-2 record, 2.14 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and three shutouts in 23 AHL appearances with Chicago in 2021-22, leading the league in goals-against average and ranking tied for second in shutouts. Lyon owns an 89-60-17 record, 2.67 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and nine shutouts in 172 career AHL games with Lehigh Valley and Chicago from 2016-22. Prior to turning professional, Lyon earned a 50-29-14 record, 1.88 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and 15 shutouts in 93 career NCAA games with Yale from 2013-16, where he was twice named ECAC Goaltender of the Year and was selected as a finalist for the Hobey Baker and Mike Richter awards in 2016. The Baudette, Minn., native also made 99 USHL appearances with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders and Omaha Lancers from 2011-13, posting a 52-37-4 record, 2.73 goals-against average, .912 save percentage and five shutouts.
DeAngelo, 26, has missed each of the team's last five games due to an upper body injury suffered against Philadelphia on Feb. 21. He has tallied 40 points (9g, 31a) in 43 games with Carolina this season and leads all Hurricanes blueliners in goals, assists, points and power-play points (16) while pacing the team in plus/minus (+19). The 5'11", 180-pound defenseman has registered 146 points (33g, 113a) in 249 career NHL games with Arizona, NY Rangers and Carolina since making his debut with the Coyotes on Nov. 8, 2016. The Sewell, N.J., native was selected by Tampa Bay in the first round, 19th overall, of the 2014 NHL Draft and signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 28, 2021.
