RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Dwight Helminen from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Helminen’s emergency recall comes as Hurricanes forward Jussi Jokinen recently returned to Finland following the death of his father.
This marks the second NHL recall this season for Helminen (5’10”, 191 lbs.), who ranks third among Albany skaters with 15 goals, and fifth on the team with 30 points in 54 games played this season. The Hancock, MI, native made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes at Montreal on Oct. 28. In eight games with Carolina, he notched a goal and earned an assist (2 points) while averaging 10:51 of ice time per game. Helminen, 25, has scored four goals and earned three assists (7 points) in Albany’s last eight games.
