– Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned defenseman Ryan Murphy
to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Murphy, 20, has totaled 12 points (2g, 10a) in 46 NHL games with the Hurricanes during his first full professional season. The Aurora, Ont., native has also played 16 AHL games for Charlotte in 2013-14, earning 18 points (1g, 17a). Murphy is tied for first among Checkers defensemen in assists this season, and was on an 11-game assist streak at the time of his recall to Carolina on March 6. Selected by the Hurricanes in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy (5’11”, 185 lbs.) has totaled two goals and 10 assists (12 points) in 50 career NHL games with Carolina.
