Canes Reassign Boychuk to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Zach Boychuk to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Boychuk, 24, earned an assist on Jay Harrison’s goal and was (+1) in 7:53 of ice time during Carolina’s 5-3 victory against San Jose last night, after being recalled from Charlotte earlier Friday. The Airdrie, Alb., native leads the Checkers in goals (9), assists (10) and points (19) and is tied for first in the AHL in power-play goals (7). Carolina’s first-round selection, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Boychuk has totaled eight goals and 13 assists (21 points) in 86 career NHL games with Carolina, Pittsburgh and Nashville.
