ST. PAUL - The Carolina Hurricanes today placed forward Brian Gibbons on waivers.

Should Gibbons clear waivers at noon on Saturday, the Hurricanes can assign him to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Gibbons last cleared waivers on Oct. 1, and though he hasn't been on the Canes' roster for 30 cumulative days since, he's played in 11 games, necessitating the need for another trip through waivers.

The move corresponds with the activation of forward Jordan Martinook from injured reserve. Martinook has missed the team's last 15 games following surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

Gibbons, 31, has recorded eight shots on goal and two penalty minutes in 11 games with the Canes this season.
