RALEIGH, NC—The 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes have been nominated for five awards at the second-annual Southern Sports Awards, presented by Edge Marketing and Lincoln Financial Sports. The awards show will be taped on Dec. 6 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall in Davidson, NC, near Charlotte.
The Hurricanes were nominated in the following categories:
- Best Ticket – Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals
- Performance of the Year – Team
- Team of the Year – Professional
- Coach of the Year – Peter Laviolette
- Performance of the Year – Cam Ward in the NHL Playoffs
Fans are encouraged to vote for the awards online from Oct. 28 to Dec. 4 at www.southernsportsawards.com.
The second annual Southern Sports Awards will premier on Dec. 9 on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and other affiliates across the south. Last year’s inaugural awards show was seen by more than a half million viewers and included award winners and celebrities including Richard Petty, Dean Smith, Bobby Bowden, Burt Reynolds, Charlie Daniels, Clint Black, James Carville, Steve Spurrier, Frank Beemer, Paula Dean and many more.
