RALEIGH, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League today announced the details of the team's annual holiday community day, which will take place on Tuesday, December 18th. Groups of players will go holiday shopping with students from Durham Nativity School and visit four area hospitals to spread holiday cheer.

Hurricanes players Calvin de Haan, Micheal Ferland, Jordan Martinook, Dougie Hamilton and Lucas Wallmark will be partnered with students from Durham Nativity School to buy presents for the students and their families for the holidays. Students will be joined by the players at the Target at North Hills at 3:50 p.m. and will shop for holiday gifts from 4 - 5 p.m.
Durham Nativity School is a 2015 Carolina Hurricanes Foundation GOAL Grant recipient, receiving $150,000 over three years to create a fifth grade for their school. In recent years, Durham Nativity School has been the recipient of the Hurricanes holiday shopping excursion. The Durham Nativity School aims to educate and empower each child to reach their full potential. Durham Nativity School is a middle school (now starting in fifth grade with the GOAL Grant) that commits 12 years of support to their students, including high school and college advising and educational support.
Remaining players will be divided into four groups to visit patients at REX Hospital (1 - 2 p.m.), UNC Children's Hospital (1:30 - 2:30 p.m.), Duke Children's Hospital (1:45 - 2:45 p.m.) and WakeMed Hospital (1 - 2 p.m.) on Tuesday. The players will help hand out gifts and Hurricanes items to patients, in addition to taking pictures and signing autographs.
