by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Canes Cycling Club, Inc., 99.9FM The Fan ESPN Radio and Cycling Spoken Here, have recently formed an alliance to support community charities.

The Mission of the Canes Cycling Club is to participate in cycling programs to benefit those engaged in raising funds in support of various charities. “I am thrilled we have formed a relationship with 99.9FM The Fan ESPN Radio as our official broadcast partner and Cycling Spoken Here, our official Bike Shop,” said Larry Perkins, President of the Canes Cycling Club.

The Alliance will feature 99.9FM The Fan’s radio personality and host of the Hurricanes pre & post game shows, Mike Maniscalco, who will train for the upcoming Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride 2009, September 12th and 13th in New Bern, NC. The Bike MS event benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Society Eastern North Carolina Chapter. Fans are invited to join Mike’s team, train along with him and participate in the Bike MS event, as he cruises around on his custom, Trek Project One Madone 5.2, featuring special Aeolus 5.0 wheels, Race X Lite tires, custom trimmed in red and white. This autographed bike will be raffled off and the winner drawn during a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game.  Money raised from the raffle will go directly to benefit the Kids N Community Foundation, Le Tour De Feme and the North Eastern NC MS, the Canes Cycling Club’s non-profit partners.  Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each at Cycling Spoken Here, 1377 NW Maynard Rd, Cary, NC, or by visiting www.CyclingSpokenHere.com or at www.CanesCyclingClub.com beginning Monday, July 20, 2009*.

“Mike is doing this for two great causes… to benefit those in need and his own personal health and wellness,” said Mike Morgan, General Manager of 99.9FM The Fan. “I’m thrilled to have one of our own participating in this partnership!”

“I’m excited to be part of such a great cause and I’m also excited to be part of a great team,” said Mike Maniscalco, radio host on 99.9FM The Fan. ”My goal is to raise awareness of the Canes Cycling Club and Cycling Spoken Here and to prove no matter what shape you’re in, it’s never too late to get in the game.”

Steve Levine, owner of Cycling Spoken Here said, “At Cycling Spoken Here, we believe in ACE. (Advocacy, Community and Environment).  We are proud to help support such a great organization as the Canes Cycling Club in their inaugural year. Together we can give back to our community one pedal stroke at a time.”
