- The Cinema Advertising Council
(CAC), the trade association of cinema advertising companies that represent 82% of U.S. movie screens, has named the Carolina Hurricanes' "There's a Storm Coming"
spot as a winner of the 2008 CAC Creative Excellence Award for Top Local Commercial Spot. The award recognizes high-quality, entertaining advertising that has been showcased in movie theatres throughout the year.
"The Carolina Hurricanes continue to strive for excellence both on and off the ice," said Ben Aycock, director of marketing and brand developement for the Hurricanes. "The creative delivered by our in-house team consistently exceeds expectations and continues to raise the bar in the field of sports marketing year after year."
Nominees were chosen by the CAC membership, and the winning creative was determined by votes from the CAC Board of Directors, marketing committee members, and creative directors from select member companies. Advertising that appeared in the theatre environment between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 was eligible.
“Each year, the CAC Creative Excellence Awards honor the very best in cinema advertising, and the Hurricanes’ win is a testament to the high-level of creativity employed by the advertiser,” said Dave Kupiec, chairman and president of the CAC.
The annual awards recognize the top national, regional and local cinema advertising in the following categories:
- Top Regional or National Commercial Spot
- Top Regional or National Long-Form Advertising (90+ seconds)
- Top Integrated Cinema Advertising Campaign
- Top Local Commercial Spot
- Top Still Image Advertisement
- Top Digitally Animated Still Cinema Advertisement
