Canes Announce Training Camp Roster and Groups

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the roster for the team’s 2011 training camp, to be held in Raleigh. The Hurricanes have invited 56 players to their main camp, including six goaltenders, 19 defensemen and 31 forwards. The full training camp roster, schedule and group breakdown can be seen here:

Thirteen players who represented the Hurricanes during this week’s NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, MI, will join the main camp: forwards Jared Staal, Brody Sutter, Victor Rask, Justin Shugg, Gregory Hofmann and Mattias Lindstrom; defensemen Justin Faulk, Justin Krueger, Ryan Murphy, Keegan Lowe, Austin Levi, Rasmus Rissanen; and goaltender Matt Mahalak.

The Hurricanes will open training camp with player physicals on Sept. 16, and then hit the ice for their first official practices at the RBC Center on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The team travels to Buffalo for its first exhibition game two days later, taking on the Sabres at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, the team will host its annual Caniac Carnival at the RBC Center, the season kick-off event which includes rides, interactive games, live music and an autograph session with select Hurricanes players. The team will also hold a Red-White scrimmage at noon, giving fans their first glimpse of game action at the RBC Center this season. The 12th Annual Caniac Carnival begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m., and is free to all fans.

The Hurricanes’ training camp concludes with a practice at the RBC Center on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Carolina opens its 2011-12 regular season against the Eastern Conference finalist Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the RBC Center.
