RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated defenseman Joni Pitkanen from injured reserve. Pitkanen will be available to play in tonight’s game against the Florida Panthers.
Pitkanen, 28, has totaled three goals, nine assists (12 points) and eight penalty minutes in 21 games for the Hurricanes this season, and underwent knee surgery on Jan. 3. The Oulu, Finland, native has missed 52 games due to injury this season, including the last 44 contests. Pitkanen (6’3”, 210 lbs.) has earned 268 points (54 goals, 214 assists) in 504 career NHL games with Carolina, Philadelphia and Edmonton.
