FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Nov. 17, 2005
RALEIGH, NC -- Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated defenseman Andrew Hutchinson from injured reserve. To make room for Hutchinson on the roster, defenseman Glen Wesley has been added to the injured reserve list, retroactive to Nov. 5.
Hutchinson, 24, has played in three regular-season games with the Hurricanes this season. He was a healthy extra for nine games before sustaining a hip flexor injury prior to Carolina's Nov. 5 game against the Florida Panthers. During training camp, Hutchinson (6' 2", 206 lbs.) earned eight assists to lead the team and rank fourth in the NHL while playing in seven of Carolina's eight exhibition games.
Wesley, 37, suffered a groin injury in the Hurricanes' 2-0 win against Florida on Nov. 5, and has missed the team's last four games. He will be eligible to return to the lineup as soon as Saturday when Carolina will face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden (1 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
The Hurricanes begin a home-and-home series against the Rangers tonight at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina will travel to New York on Friday in advance of the teams' game on Saturday (1 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
