RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that defenseman Brett Bellemore will re-join his junior team, the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. Bellemore has missed the majority of the Albany River Rats’ season with a back injury, and will finish the season as an over-age player in the junior ranks.
Bellemore, 21, began his professional career following Plymouth’s 2007-08 season, playing in four regular-season and five playoff games with Carolina’s American Hockey League affiliate, Albany. The Windsor, Ont., native signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes on May 15, 2008, and played in six of the River Rats’ first seven games this season. Bellemore (6’4”, 205 lbs.) returns to the Plymouth Whalers where he scored six goals and earned 30 assists (36 points) in 152 regular-season games over three seasons. The Hurricanes drafted Bellemore in the sixth round, 162nd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
