Hurricanes prospects to play for PlanetUSA squad

RALEIGH, NC -- The American Hockey League today announced the squads for its 2006 All-Star Classic to be held in Winnipeg, Man., on Feb. 1. Hurricanes prospects Keith Aucoin and Danny Richmond will play with the PlanetUSA All-Star team against the Canadian AHL All Stars.

Aucoin, 27, leads the Lowell Lock Monsters -- the Hurricanes' AHL affiliate -- in goals (15), assists (28) and points (43) while playing in 36 of the team's first 39 games this season. In 2004-05, the Waltham, Mass., native had 21 goals and 45 assists (66 points) in 72 regular-season games with the Providence Bruins, and led the team with 14 assists and 22 points in their 17-game postseason run. The Hurricanes signed Aucoin as a free agent on Aug. 4, 2005.

Richmond, 21, leads all Lowell defensemen with 14 points (3g, 11a) and ranks third on the team with 56 penalty minutes while playing in 31 of the Lock Monsters' games. He has been recalled to Carolina twice this season and made his NHL debut on Nov. 11 at Florida. In 2004-05, the Chicago native posted four goals and nine assists (13 points) in 63 games with the Lock Monsters in his first season of professional hockey. The Hurricanes drafted Richmond in the second round, 31st overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
