It’s official – All-Star Weekend is just a week away. One of our goals as the host city is to create an atmosphere that shows the widespread embrace for the league bringing this event to the Triangle. Whether that is from hanging new banners on the light posts everywhere from downtown Raleigh to the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, or lining Fayetteville St. with flags representing each of the 30 NHL teams, we hope that no matter where you are January 28-30 that the presence of the All-Star Game will be represented in some form.
With that in mind, here are a few ways we have sought to create that atmosphere, with details on how we need you to be involved. So here is your call to action Caniacs. Get out and about this week, sport your gear and show all the visitors and the rest of the NHL what hockey in Carolina is all about.
All-Star Window Graphics

If you’ve made your way to North Hills, Glenwood South or Fayetteville St. over the past few days, you might have noticed a few of the league’s All Stars popping up in windows of some of your favorite restaurants, bars and local businesses.
The treatment on the graphics is an effect like I have never seen before. Take some time as you’re walking around in those areas over the next week to notice the “vapor trail” applied to the players in these action shots. The treatment was designed to emulate the tail of a Hurricane, a nice tie in to the host team. Thanks to the NHL and Infinite Scale, who produced the graphics, we managed to get the Staal, Ward and Skinner images all in time to include them in this project.
Many of you may remember us doing something similar to this on Glenwood South in 2006 during the Stanley Cup run, but we were fortunate to be able to expand this All-Star version to a much larger scale. Thanks to all of the businesses who allowed us to use their storefronts, this project covers more than 6,000 square feet.
