AARON WARD TO MISS 3-6 WEEKS FOLLOWING SURGERY

Defenseman to undergo hernia surgery today


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Jan. 11, 2006

RALEIGH, NC -- Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Aaron Ward will undergo surgery today to repair a hernia. Ward left the Hurricanes' game against Detroit in the second period on Tuesday and did not return. He is expected to miss three to six weeks following the surgery.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a three-game home stand on Friday against the Nashville Predators (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) before wrapping up the home stand with a Sunday matinee against the St. Louis Blues (1:30 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network).
