VEGAS (May 30, 2019) - The Vegas Junior Golden Knights announced today, May 30, that the recipient of the Vegas Junior Golden Knights Inaugural Mark Workman Scholarship is Emily Kline.
Kline, 17, recently graduated from Odyssey Charter High School in Las Vegas and has played 14 years of hockey in Minnesota and Nevada. The Princeton, Minnesota native played for the Vegas Junior Golden Knights Varsity D3 team this past season and served as an alternate captain. Appearing in 14 games for the Vegas Junior Golden Knights, Kline tallied three assists. Heading into the 2019-20 season, Kline will be an incoming freshman at Arizona State University and has committed to play for the Sun Devils Women's Club Hockey Team.
"Emily is an incredible competitor on the ice and in the classroom. Her application and essay demonstrated her leadership, her contributions in the community, as well as her remarkable passion for the sport," said Vegas Golden Knights Director of Hockey Administration Katy Boettinger, who also serves as the Academic Advisor and Scholarship Committee Chair of the Vegas Junior Golden Knights. "Emily has faced many challenges in her playing career, but remained positive, and continued to turn each obstacle into an opportunity."

Mark Workman Scholarship - 2019

Kline exemplified the core values of the Mark Workman Scholarship including passion, sportsmanship, work ethic, discipline, community service and academic achievement. Her leadership and her hockey journey were also noted as part of the reason for her selection. Kline overcame adversity in her playing career which she learned and grew from.
"I was mostly surprised with excitement and filled with gratefulness in my heart that hard work does pay off," said Mark Workman Scholarship Recipient Emily Kline. "I would like to thank everyone who has helped me since I moved to Vegas, whether it be my coaches, teammates or peers, I sincerely thank them for believing in me."
Named after the late Vegas Golden Knights amateur scout, the Mark Workman Scholarship is awarded to a current senior in the Vegas Junior Golden Knights program who best exemplifies passion, sportsmanship, team play, work ethic, discipline, community service and academic achievement.
Mark Workman passed away February 14, 2018 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was a passionate hockey man that dedicated his life to the game. In addition to his involvement at the amateur, collegiate, and professional levels, he gave much of his time to youth hockey and to the growth and development of our game. He was proud to represent USA Hockey through his volunteer work at their spring and summer development camps. He loved working with young hockey players, and he cared deeply about their growth and personal development on and off the ice.
