The 2019 IIHF Men's World Championship began Friday in Slovakia and four Vegas Golden Knights players saw their first action of the tournament.
Mark Stone, Jonathan Marchessault and Shea Theodore took the ice with Team Canada to face Finland in the opening game. Prior to puck drop, Stone was named an assistant captain for the team. The trio connected for a power-play goal as Theodore and Stone set up Marchessault for the strike. Marchessault was named the player of the game for Canada despite a 3-1 loss to Finland.

Forward Nikita Gusev helped Team Russia to a 5-2 win against Norway in their opening game of the tournament. Gusev assisted on a goal from Florida Panthers forward Evgenii Dadonov before tucking a shot of his own under the crossbar in the third period.
Gusev and the Russians hit the ice again at 3:15 a.m. PT Sunday against Team Austria. Canada will face Great Britain at 11:15 a.m. PT Sunday for their second game of the opening round.
