The documentary film VALIANT begins by chronicling the creation of the National Hockey League's expansion team Vegas Golden Knights by entrepreneur Bill Foley. Featuring the awarding of the franchise in 2016, and selecting their players including Marc-André Fleury from the Pittsburgh Penguins during the Expansion Draft, the Golden Knights were introduced to Las Vegas during their home games in the 2017 NHL preseason.
Sparking a growing sense of pride in their grieving city, the Vegas Golden Knights went on to win their first home game, beginning a streak that made them the first team in NHL history to start an inaugural season winning eight of their first nine games. Ultimately, the Vegas Golden Knights enthralled the hockey world with their historic performance while capturing the hearts of the people of Las Vegas and forging an unbreakable connection between the team and its city.
VALIANT features franchise owner Bill Foley, General Manager, George McPhee, Golden Knights players: Marc-Andre Fleury, William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault, Deryk Engelland, Ryan Reaves, and entertainers Wayne Newton and Lil Jon, along with Las Vegas residents, law officers and first responders to the tragedy.
Following its Las Vegas premiere screening event, VALIANT will be available nationwide via VOD platforms beginning December, 13, 2019.
"There is so much more to the city of Las Vegas than what most people know," said Vegas Golden Knights Chairman and CEO Bill Foley. "Beyond the bright lights of the Strip is a strong, tight-knit, hard-working community of over two million people who are proud to call Las Vegas home. Thanks to their support and passion, we embarked on a truly improbable journey together while enjoying one of the most successful inaugural seasons in North American sports history. VALIANT tells the entire story of our team's special connection with our great city. We would like to especially thank Virgil Price, Cruz Angeles, James Lawler and their teams as well as the NHL for their passion and steadfast dedication to the VALIANT project. We hope audiences around the world enjoy the film and we are excited for its debut on November 17 at the Fortress."
"The 2017-18 Vegas Golden Knights were the unforgettable Cinderella story of the NHL season," said Steve Mayer, NHL Chief Content Office and Executive Vice President. "The Golden Knights forever cemented their place in the hearts of the residents of Las Vegas and captured the imagination of the rest of the hockey world not only with their historic performance on the ice but also their commitment to unifying their community in the face of tragedy. Years from now, their first season will truly be one of the greatest stories in the history of the NHL."
"We decided to name this film VALIANT to pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of this great city and its first professional sports team," said Executive Producer and Producer Virgil Price, owner of Sterling Productions.
"It's an honor to present the exclusive premiere viewing of VALIANT to the city of Las Vegas and fans of the Golden Knights in association with Sterling Productions and NHL Original Productions" said James Lawler, producer and CEO of Osmosis Films.
