Some things are bigger than hockey. Tonight's home opener against the Arizona Coyotes is one of those things.
As much as it's the first game in franchise history, it's also about this city. A city that was rocked by tragedy last Sunday, for whom tonight has transformed from a celebration of its first major league team's home debut to part of the healing process.
That with the world watching, part of tonight is showing what Las Vegas is all about. Not the Las Vegas that vacationers see, but the true heart and soul of this place.
This is why in lieu of advertisements on T-Mobile Arena's boards, as per usual by NHL standards, the team is using its space to help deliver a message.
The message is that Las Vegas is strong. We are #VegasStrong.
