Marc-Andre Fleury isn't the only Golden Knights goalie to have had a strong showing this weekend.
Maksim Zhukov, a Vegas prospect who was drafted in the fourth round (96th overall) this past June, carried the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers to two straight victories, himself.
First, Zhukov stopped 22 of 23 shots in a 2-1 Gamblers win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday. He followed this up by getting 21 of 22 shots against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, also a 2-1 Green Bay victory.
This performance earned Zhukov honors as the USHL's Goaltender of the Week.
His first two games of the season, this has Zhukov sitting with a 2-0-0 record, along with .99 goals-against average and .956 save percentage. To put this in comparison, Zhukov was nearly as good for Green Bay as Fleury was for Vegas; Fleury went 2-0-0, with a 0.98 goals-against average and .973 save percentage.
Zhukov's schedule will continue this Friday, when the Gamblers visit the Madison Capitols.
The USHL is a top-tier junior league based mostly throughout the midwestern United States. Unlike the Canadian Hockey League, USHL players often use their junior experience as a springboard to NCAA hockey.
Zhukov, an 18-year-old Russian, arrived in Green Bay last season to get more accustomed to the North American style of hockey.
Although he might not be a Golden Knight for a while, this was a strong showing for a player Vegas is high on to start his season. Vegas holds exclusive rights to Zhukov until at least 2020.
