Las Vegas's NHL franchise took its next large step in its march to its first game next October by breaking ground on its practice facility on October 5.
Besides becoming the headquarters for Las Vegas's NHL team, the Summerlin facility will also become a hub for recreational and youth hockey for the people of Southern Nevada.
For a day that will be frozen in time as part of this franchise's beginning, here are the best images from the memorable day when construction began.
The day started by setting the stage for the ground to be broken.
When Channel 3's Randy Howe took the podium, the groundbreaking was ready to begin.
Team owner Bill Foley was next to share a few words.
Then it was time to start moving some dirt.
Here's how it looked from above.
When the day ended, it was certain that October 5, 2016 will go down as part of hockey history in Las Vegas.
