On Saturday, Nov. 15, members of the Vegas Golden Knights organization partnered with Southwest Gas Foundation to clean and repair books for children and schools in underserved communities. This effort was part of the Building Lives Up Everywhere (BLUE) program, a Southwest Gas employee volunteer initiative in which staff dedicate their time to creating a positive impact in the Las Vegas community.

Golden Knights broadcaster Daren Millard and members of the VGK cast including Chance and Vegas Vivas helped restore and clean over 5,000 books at Spread the Word Nevada for underserved schools across the Las Vegas valley. Millard, Chance, and other members of the VGK organization helped over 100 total volunteers finished the morning with over 3,700 books boxed and sorted.

With the help of the VGK organization and Southwest Gas Foundation, students across the valley will have access to clean, safe, and quality learning materials to help their education. Each month, the newly cleaned and beautified books will be sent to low-income schools in Las Vegas to expand the students’ way of learning. Volunteers cleaned the covers, repaired any rips or tears of pages, and removed stickers to make sure they were in the best shape for students.

This isn’t the first time the Golden Knights and Southwest have partnered to make a positive impact of children across the Las Vegas Valley. In February, the Vegas Golden Knights and Southwest Gas teamed up together to build beds that were donated to kids in need in the Las Vegas community to ensure they have safe places to sleep. Prior to that in April 2024, the Golden Knights and Southwest Gas revived Ansan Sister City Park by planting over 25 trees and cleaning over 440 pounds of debris from the park.
