Max Pacioretty recorded a hat trick as the Vegas Golden Knights collected a 6-2 victory against the Arizona Coyotes in the preseason opener Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
After Arizona took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the opening period, Pacioretty potted his first tally of the afternoon on a breakaway. The Coyotes took a 2-1 lead at the 12:10 mark, but Pacioretty turned a loose puck in the offensive zone into the game-tying goal late in the frame. After setting up Cody Eakin to give Vegas a 3-2 lead, Pacioretty collected a rebound late in the period and slipped it into a yawning cage for the hat trick. The Golden Knights added a shorthanded goal from Reilly Smith and an empty-net marker from Brayden McNabb to seal the 6-2 win in the third period.
