Vegas visits San Jose for back end of home-and-home

by Gordon Weigers @GoldenKnights / VegasGoldenKnights.com

The Vegas Golden Knights and the San Jose Sharks collide for the second time in the young season Friday at 7:30 p.m. at SAP Center. Catch the game on AT&T SportsNet and FOX Sports Radio 98.9/1340.

NOTES
If he is named the starter, Friday's game will be Marc-Andre Fleury's 800th NHL appearance in goal during his career with the Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Head coach Gerard Gallant confirmed that defenseman Nate Schmidt is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury sustained in the home opener.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Knights controlled the pace of play during their home opener against the Sharks on Wednesday night as they claimed a 4-1 win at T-Mobile Arena. Reilly Smith netted the eventual game-winner in the first period and added a shorthanded goal in the third to help the Vegas offense. Mark Stone chipped in a goal and Cody Glass earned his first NHL marker as the Golden Knights cruised to their first pair of points of the season.

A VEGAS VICTORY WOULD…
- Be the 96th win in franchise history

- Give Vegas its second 2-0-0 start in three seasons

KEYS TO THE GAME
Outswim The Sharks: San Jose will have the energy of its fans as the team celebrates its own home opener. It will be key for Vegas to tune out the crowd and prevent the Sharks from feeding off the atmosphere.

Protect Your Goalie:The absence of Schmidt changes any plans the coaches have been working on all through training camp. Whichever Vegas blueliners suit up for the game will have to repeat what the team did Wednesday to keep the Sharks from circling the net.
