LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Knights dropped their third game in a row as they fell to the Los Angeles Kings, 4-3, in overtime on Friday night at T-Mobile Arena. Max Pacioretty scored twice to snap a personal 11-game drought while Jack Eichel notched his first point as a Golden Knight with an assist. Jonathan Marchessault had two assists for Vegas, but it was Adrian Kempe's two-goal game that lifted the Kings to the win.
OPPOSITION UPDATE
San Jose enters Sunday's matchup sitting seventh in the Pacific Division with 49 points and a 22-21-5 record. The Sharks are winless in their last five outings and are 0-1-2 in February. In their last game, the Sharks were defeated by the Vancouver Canucks, 5-4, in overtime on Thursday night. Though San Jose sits low in the league-wide standings, the team ranks fourth in the NHL on the penalty kill with an 84.6 percent efficiency.
Timo Meier was the lone Shark at NHL All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas earlier this month and leads the team in scoring with 50 points (23G, 27A) in 43 appearances. Tomas Hertl has played in all 48 games for San Jose this season and has 40 points (22G, 18A). Brent Burns is the top-scoring defenseman for the Sharks with 31 points (4G, 27A) with Erik Karlsson close behind at 26 points (8G, 18A) in 15 fewer games.
WHEN LAST WE MET
The Golden Knights and Sharks haven't squared off yet in 2021-22. Vegas had a successful regular season series with San Jose last season as the Golden Knights won all eight matchups against the Sharks. The Golden Knights outscored the Sharks, 33-14, in 2020-21.

KEYS TO THE GAME
Renew the Rivalry: It's hard to believe that Vegas hasn't met San Jose yet this season. With only 32 games left in the regular season, the Golden Knights and Sharks have four dates on the calendar and the sparks should fly in their first matchup.
Build Throughout: Vegas got the start it wanted against Los Angeles on Friday but didn't finish the game strong enough to win. The Golden Knights will want to start strong and finish even stronger.
