Jonathan Marchessault scored three times in the third period to propel the Vegas Golden Knights (15-11-4) to their third straight win against the New Jersey Devils (9-14-4) on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Kyle Palmieri. Chandler Stephenson answered in the second frame in his first game with Vegas to knot the score at 1-1. A late second-period goal from Jesper Bratt sent New Jersey into the third stanza with a 2-1 edge. Marchessault erased the Devils' lead by scoring a natural hat trick in the third period to give the Golden Knights a 4-2 lead. Nico Hischier scored for the Devils to cut the lead to 4-3, but Malcolm Subban held off the late comeback bid to secure the win for Vegas.
With New Jersey leading by a goal heading into the third, Marchessault took matters into his own hands by recording the natural hat trick to completely turn the tide for the Golden Knights.
Chandler Stephenson: Stephenson made a good first impression on his new team with his first goal as a Golden Knight.
Jonathan Marchessault: Marchessault's second hat trick as a Golden Knight was the catalyst for Vegas in the third period.
Alex Tuch: Tuch's three assists gave him points for the third game in a row.
