The Vegas Golden Knights suffered a 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames on Monday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Calgary brought the fire in the first period as they put five goals on the board in the opening stanza. Johnny Gaudreau racked up four points in the period while Matthew Tkachuk and Sean Monahan collected three points each. Tkachuk and Sam Bennett scored goals early in the second to extend the lead to 7-0 for the home team. Nick Holden ended David Rittich's shutout bid early in the third period and Max Pacioretty netted a power-play goal to bring the score to 7-2.
TAKEAWAY
Trailing by seven goals heading into the third period, the Golden Knights pressed on to make what they could of a tough situation. Their two goals in the third gave them something to hang their hats on.
