Golden Knights Sign Free Agent Defenseman Zach Whitecloud

The 21-year-old defenseman played at Bemidji State University. Whitecloud is expected to join the team in Buffalo.

VEGAS (March 8, 2018) -  Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced today, March 8, that the team has signed free agent defenseman Zach Whitecloud to a three-year, entry level contract. Whitecloud is expected to join the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, March 9 in Buffalo, NY.

Whitecloud recently finished his sophomore year with Bemidji State University where he registered four goals and 14 assists in 36 games. As a freshman at BSU, he ranked second on the team in assists (14) and blocked shots (59). For his career at Bemidji State, Whitecloud recorded 36 points (7 G, 29 A) in 77 games.

The Brandon, Manitoba native was an AHCA Honors First "All American Scholars" recipient this season following his sophomore campaign.

Whitecloud also suited up for Team Canada in the 2017 Karjala Cup, where he had one assist in two games.

He will wear jersey No. 2 for the Golden Knights.

-Appeared in 36 games for Bemidji State during the 2017-18 season and recorded 18 points (4 G, 14 A).

-Had one assist in two games for Team Canada in the 2017 Karjala Cup

-Appeared in all 41 games as a freshman for the Beavers in 2016-17 and recorded 17 points (3 G ,14 A). His 14 assists ranked second on the team.

-Played for the Virden Oil Capitals in the Manitoba Junior Hockey league for two seasons and was the top scoring defenseman during the 2015-16 season before joining Bemidji State.
