Despite a 37-29 advantage in shots, the Vegas Golden Knights were defeated by the Arizona Coyotes, 4-1, Thursday night at Gila River Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Coyotes opened the scoring in the first half of the opening period as Conor Garland netted his first goal of the season at 8:00. Nick Schmaltz added to the lead late in the frame, but Shea Theodore answered with his first of the campaign with five seconds left. Garland potted his second goal of the night early in the second before Niklas Hjalmarsson made it a 4-1 game. The third period passed without a goal as Arizona picked up its first win of the season.

TURNING POINT
After Theodore got Vegas on the board late in the first, the Golden Knights were unable to carry the momentum from that goal into the second period. Instead, Garland rebuilt the two-goal lead for the Coyotes as they skated to the win.
