A late comeback bid fell short for the Vegas Golden knights (20-15-6) as they fell to the Anaheim Ducks (16-18-4), 4-3, on Friday night at Honda Center in the first game back from the Christmas break.

The Ducks potted three goals in a row to take a 3-1 edge in the middle period and added to the lead at the midway point of the third. Nate Schmidt scored twice in the final two minutes to cut the Anaheim lead to 4-3, but the Ducks held on for the win.
Jonathan Marchessault: Marchessault scored his 13th goal of the season on his 29th birthday.
Nate Schmidt: Schmidt's pair of goals made the game interesting in the final two minutes.
