The Colorado skinny: Avalanche training camp has been dogged by stories focusing on Matt Duchene's unhappiness in Denver and his demands to be traded. Hasn't happened and coach Jared Bednar still has him to utilize in the lineup. Former first round pick Tyson Jost looks ready to crack the roster and Colin Wilson was brought over from the Nashville Predators in the offseason. Colorado is young and getting younger. They'll be fun to watch on certain nights but inexperience may haunt them on others.
The Vegas skinny: And then there were two. That's it - just two more pre-season games for GM George McPhee and head coach Gerard Gallant to make lots of roster decisions. The Golden Knights now have 31 players in camp and must get down to 23 plus injuries by October 3rd.
Vegas has 18 forwards, 11 defensemen and two goalies in camp. They'll likely begin the season with 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies. On the blueline, free agent Brad Hunt has created a roster headache with his brilliant work in camp. McPhee needs to trim three D, how he gets that done - through trades or waivers - is a big story to watch over the next week.
Youngsters Tomas Hyka and Alex Tuch have done the same up front. Both have had strong camps and McPhee has decisions and maneuvers to make up front as well. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has yet to make a start in goal at T-Mobile Arena and that's going to happen either tonight or Sunday.
