Development Camp Blog Part 3 - Ryder Donovan

by Ryder Donovan @GoldenKnights / VegasGoldenKnights.com

When you look at the schedule for a camp like this, you look forward to everything, but you really get excited about the scrimmages. We had our first of three scrimmages this afternoon and I was blown away by everything.

They told me at the beginning of the week that it would be rowdy for the games, but I had no idea it would be as much fun as it was. The crowd at City National Arena was buzzing and the organization went all out with the music, ice crew, cheerleaders and overall gameday atmosphere. That's what people say this fanbase is like; they're loud, they care, and they have a good time. It makes it that much more enjoyable for us on the ice.

I didn't have my best game today by any means, but a lot of guys were just getting their feet wet. We've been on the ice together all week, but people play differently in a game than they do during drills. I think I played better as the scrimmage went along and I loved how we gelled as a team right away.

Marcus Kallionkieli and Mason Primeau were my linemates at first, but we switched it up throughout the game. I had a good shift with Mick Messner there and he was fun to play with. The best way for me to show who I really am as a player is in a situation like that. I don't have a ton of finesse, so I had to bring my north-south game. Now that I have a better feel for how other guys play, I can't wait to do it all again tomorrow.

The first scrimmage is under the belt and I'm excited for the next one. Stretching out and hitting the bike after was really important for me, I never did too much of that back in high school, but I've learned how key that is here.

I've talked a lot about everything we're learning during camp and how we all soak it up like sponges, but some of the most special moments have come away from the rink. Everyone finds their buddies at the hotel to have dinner and just hang out, walk around and talk about hockey. We had a good dinner again last night, except Isaiah Saville didn't answer his phone so he missed out. Maybe he was just tired, he and the other goalies have seen a lot of shots this week.

All that's left on the docket tonight is grab some dinner with the boys, you know, if Isaiah answers his phone.
