KENNEWICK, Wash. - Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his first career hat trick on Saturday as the Portland Winterhawks blanked the host Tri-City Americans 7-0 in Western Hockey League action.
The 17-year-old rookie now has 20 goals and 40 points in 42 games, which leads all first-year skaters in scoring.
Brendan Burke stopped all 25 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season for Portland.
Brendan Leipsic had two goals and an assist for the Winterhawks (39-7-3), while Nicolas Petan and Seth Jones each scored once.
Chase De Leo had three assists for Portland and Troy Rutkowski, Josh Hanson and Shaun MacPherson chipped in with two assists apiece.
Wil Tomchuk and Mitch Topping were a team-worst minus-3 for the Americans (28-19-3) and Luke Lee-Knight stopped 33-of-40 shots in a losing cause.
Portland went 1 for 6 on the power play while Tri-City failed to score on either of its chances with the man advantage.
