(Philadelphia, PA) - Members of the Hatfield Ice Arena 1994 Ice Dogs recently donated 150 pairs of ice skates to participants of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. Philadelphia Flyers Chairman Ed Snider was also on hand to accept the skates and reward the donors with tickets to the Flyers preseason opener that evening against the New Jersey Devils.

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (ESYHF) was created by Snider as his personal commitment to bring the sport of hockey and skating to inner city children.  The foundation uses hockey as the "hook" to gain and hold the attention of children, while greater life lessons stressing the importance of education, teamwork and character development are imparted.

ESYHF Charter Member Jim Sutow, Head Coach of the 1994 Ice Dogs, coordinated the collection of skates.

The mission of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation is to impact the lives of underserved youth in Philadelphia by developing programs that incorporate on-ice and off-ice activities, stressing citizenship, academics and life skills.  The programs are provided to boys and girls who otherwise would not have opportunities to enjoy ice hockey.  The Foundation provides equipment, ice time, and experienced coaching at no cost.
