As part of an exciting season of world-renowned tennis stars, thrilling co-ed match play, and nightly home match special events, the Philadelphia Freedoms are hosting Flyers Night at the Freedoms on July 15, 2011 at the Pavilion at Villanova University. On this night the Freedoms will take on the Boston Lobsters and Jan-Michael Gambill with special guest Philadelphia Flyers star James van Riemsdyk.

Fans of the Freedoms and the Flyers will have the opportunity to meet van Riemsdyk in person during a pre-match autograph session for all ticketholders. Also featured this evening will be a special on-court live auction hosted by JVR and featuring signed Flyers gear benefiting Comcast Spectacor Foundation with a portion of the proceeds going to Abington Health. Continuing the fun and special events for the evening will be an opportunity to see JVR join special guests in a special halftime Flyers Pro Set.

“I am looking forward to spending an evening with the Freedoms, their fans and all of the Flyers fans coming out that night,” said Flyers left winger van Riemsdyk. “It’s great to have the chance to participate in one of the Freedoms’ matches and to cheer on another home team from the sidelines.”

Van Riemsdyk is a New Jersey native who plays left wing for the Philadelphia Flyers. He was the Flyers second overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and was the NHL’s rookie of the month in November 2009. Van Riemsdyk scored his first career playoff goal during the 2010 Eastern Conference Semi-finals in game 7 against the Boston Bruins and helped the Flyers come from behind for victory in the game.

The Philadelphia Freedoms will play 14 matches during their 2011 regular season schedule in the WTT Pro League presented by GEICO, including seven home matches this July at The Pavilion at Villanova University. The Freedoms are led by head coach Pascal Collard and assistant coach Josh Cohen. 2011 team members include former world no. 1 doubles player Lisa Raymond, rising American Beatrice Capra, Brendan Evans and local resident Nathan Healey. Raymond, Capra, Evans and Healey join American teen phenom Melanie Oudin on the 2011 roster.

The Freedoms opened their home season on Wednesday, July 6 against Venus Williams and the Washington Kastles. Tennis great Chris Evert will make a special guest appearance on July 12. Legendary Hall of Famer John McEnroe, playing for the New York Sportimes, returns to Philly on July 13 in a blockbuster evening which will also include the Freedoms’ top marquee draft pick and rising teenage star Melanie Oudin. The Freedoms’ home match schedule will continue through July 19 with the final match-up featuring the world’s top-ranked doubles team, brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, playing for the defending WTT Champion Kansas City Explorers.
