Flyers forward R.J. Umberger returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA recently after not being able to play for Team USA in Latvia, but had time for a brief Q and A for philadelphiaflyers.com on Tuesday.Q: How are you feeling?
Umberger: "I am getting better. I have been home a couple of days now since leaving Latvia. I am starting to feel better every day. I just need to take some time off and let my body regroup."Q: We were told you were experiencing some dizziness and headaches over in Latvia. Are these symptoms from the hit you took in the playoff series against Buffalo?
Umberger: "It's a possibility. The doctors aren't saying for sure. Obviously, the hit causes a concern for it. After the hit I returned to the line-up and played a couple of games against Buffalo and I felt good when I left for Latvia. I wouldn't have gone if I didn't feel good. I got a headache on the flight over to Latvia but I had practiced and played in a game. But, I just didn't feel right. I let the right people know about it and we didn't want to take any risks. It wasn't worth jeopardizing anything because I am young and have a long future ahead of me. We decided that the best thing I could do was to come home and let my body heal."Q: Where are you right now?
Umberger: "I am in Pittsburgh for the week. I talked to the doctors when I came home and they said I could come home to Pittsburgh for the week to see my family and relax. I am going to check back in with Dr. (Gary) Dorshimer next week."Q: Any summer plans?
Umberger: "This summer is going to be pretty busy. I will be back and forth a lot between Philly and Pittsburgh. A couple of my friends are getting married and my fiancee, Cara McDade, and I are planning for our own wedding on July 22. We have a pretty busy summer ahead of us."
