Entering the 2018-19 campaign, the Philadelphia Flyers were looking for its young defensive core to take a major step. The club had to look no further than defenseman Travis Sanheim, who shattered preseason expectations and grew into a reliable, top-four blueliner.

Last season, Sanheim used his 49-game NHL stint as an opportunity to get his feet wet in a limited capacity as a rookie, posting 10 points (2G-8A). In an expanded role this season, Sanheim became the Flyers second-most productive defenseman with 35 points (9G-26A) and registered his first two career game-winning goals.

When he wasn't producing points, Sanheim was rewarded for his improved (and responsible) play with more minutes, averaging 19:34 TOI (an increase of 3:59 minutes from the previous season). The everyday life of an NHLer is a grind where durability and consistency is an incredible resource. This season, the 23-year-old Manitoba native was one of only six Flyers to appear in all 82 games, increasing his previous total by 33 games. Next season, Travis Sanheim aims to build on a stellar 2018-19 season where he won the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy Winner for the most improved player on the Flyers, as voted by his teammates, and take the next step in his young, promising career.
