On this date in 1981, Flyers captain Mel Bridgman scored three goals to lead the Flyers to a 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Spectrum. The hat trick was the only three-goal game of Bridgman's career as a Flyer.
Mel Bridman played parts of seven seasons with the Flyers (1975-82) where he recorded 119 goals and 205 assists for 324 points to go along with 971 penalty minutes in 426 regular season games.
Bridgman was the first and only player to be drafted first overall by the Flyers in the NHL Draft (1975). He served as captain of the team from 1979-80 to 1980-81.
