May 10, 2004...Flyers Defeat Lightning, 6-2

Sami Kapanen's shorthanded goal in the first period turned out to be the game-winning goal.

On this date in 2004, the Flyers defeated the Lightning in Tampa Bay, 6-2, in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Finals. With the win, the Flyers tied the series at one game apiece.

The Flyers led 3-0 after the first period and 5-0 after the second period en route to the 6-2 victory.

John LeClair opened the scoring in the game with an even-strength goal at 1:53. Mark Recchi scored a power play goal at 8:50 and then Sami Kapanen scored a shorthanded goal to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Other Flyers goalscorers in the game were Vladimir Malakhov, Michal Handzus and Mattias Timander. Defenseman Marcus Ragnarsson posted three assists in the contest.

Goaltender Robert Esche held the Lightning scoreless through the first 50 minutes of the game, before the Lightning would score the final two goals of the game to make the final score 6-2.
