The Flyers traded their second round pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft to the Florida Panthers in exchange for the rights to Jiri Dopita. In their second trade of the day, the Flyers traded their first round pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Ottawa's first round and seventh round pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and Tampa Bay's second round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
With the first round pick acquired from Ottawa, 27th overall, the Flyers selected defenseman Jeff Woywitka. In the third round (95th overall), the Flyers selected center Patrick Sharp.
