The Flyers' first captain, Lou Angotti, participates in the opening ceremonies to the 1967-68 season.
On this date in 1968, the Flyers traded center Lou Angotti and Ian Campbell to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Darryl Edestrand and Jerry Melnyk.
Angotti was the team's captain through their inaugural season of 1967-68.
Edestrand only played two games for the Flyers (during the 1969-70 season). Melnyk never played a game for the Flyers as he was forced to retire due to a heart condition. Melnyk still made a contribution to the organzation by serving as a scout for 29 years, including 13 years as Chief Scout. As chief scout, Melnyk was directly responsible for recommending draft choices like Bob Clarke, Brian Propp, Pelle Lindbergh and Ron Hextall.
